how do i access music therapy?

Music therapy is provided as an allied health service under Capacity Building - Improved Daily Living. If you have funding in this category, you may choose to use that funding, or part of that funding for music therapy. In addition, it must be a) delivered by a registered music therapist, b) be considered a reasonable and necessary service and c) contribute towards reaching your NDIS goals.

What is the best age for music therapy?

Music therapy is a beneficial intervention for people of all ages and abilities. Age appropriate programs are provided.

Do people need to have musical talent to benefit from music therapy

Definitely not! The human brain has been shown to respond to music no matter your background. Music therapists are committed to supporting people of any age and ability regardless of musical skill, culture or background.

Do you travel to clients?

Yes, we do! However, there is an additional fee for travel.

do i need to own my own instruments?

In the music therapy sessions, the RMT can provide instruments to play. In order to gain maximum benefit, it is advised that you have your own instrument to play at home, especially if you are having music lessons.

what kinds of instruments do you use in sessions?

We use a variety of instruments appropriate to the age, abilities, goals and needs of the client. These range from percussion instruments, piano, stringed instruments, and other electronic instruments. We also offer opportunities to use software for music creation and recording.

How many sessions should i have?

Music therapy sessions may be weekly, fortnightly or less frequent depending on individual arrangements. The number of sessions required for a music therapy program is assessed on an individual basis, and the time-frame of is entirely up to you and your goals.

can I access music lessons through the ndis?

If you have access to NDIS funding, music lessons may be funded under Capacity Building, ‘Increased Social and Community Participation’. Music lessons are not funded under therapeutic supports by the NDIS.

what is your cancellation policy?

Notice of cancellation must be given before 8pm on the day before your appointment. Late cancellations may incur a service fee. For NDIS clients, the NDIS will cover up to six hours’ worth of the total of cancelled appointments.
